What does "Full Spectrum" mean?

We can all agree there is a lack of standardized vocabulary in the world of CBD. You may have heard or seen the term "Full Spectrum" tossed around. Full Spectrum is CBD Oil containing CBD as well as the rest of the spectrum of active and essential compounds in the hemp plant (Cannabis Sativa-L).

The hemp plant (Cannabis Sativa-L) contains more than just CBD, it contains hundreds of additional active and essential compounds. Of these are other key cannabinoids: CBDa, CBG, CBN, and many others including THC (federally legal amounts of less than .3%). In addition to cannabinoids, the hemp plant contains over a hundred advantageous terpenes.

Evidence suggests CBD may provide the most therapeutic value when it is combined with the other valuable cannabinoids and terpenes present in the hemp plant. The entourage effect is a term to describe the enhanced therapeutic effect when CBD is combined with THC, CBG, CBN, and other cannabinoids and terpenes.

Read more about a study conducted in 2015 detailing the entourage effect here. It is important to consider that in true Full Spectrum CBD Oil, trace amounts of THC is present. This does not mean there is any psychoactive potential. In fact, there is no chance of “getting high” on Full Spectrum CBD Oil. However, sustained consumption of federally legal trace amounts of THC present in Full Spectrum CBD Oil may result in the failure of some drug screening tests.

If drug tests are a concern, there are THC-Free CBD options available.
